In 2020, due to COVID we had to change the way we supported families to diminish the risk of transmission.
Instead of physically having a location to collect, store, assemble and deliver hampers of food and toys, we opted to purchase and personally deliver gift cards for local grocery stores.
Recipients used the gift cards to purchase their own food. We also provided gift cards for toys/gifts for the children in the family under the age of 18.
What we found was that the people receiving the gift cards overwhelming preferred them to physical hampers!
They liked being able to tailor their grocery purchase to the nutritional needs of their family. In addition, they were empowered to buy gift that were most meaningful for their children.
In response to the feedback, we will once again be offering gift cards to replace food and toy hampers. The gift cards will be for local businesses.

Please consider other ways that you can make a difference, such as offering to shovel a neighbour’s walk, baking cookies and visiting the residents of Discovery Place.
